Weinstein Takes Rights to "Law-based" Reality Show

The Weinstein Company has optioned the rights to produce a new reality format co-created by the lawyer who represented Naomi Campbell in her privacy case against the Daily Mirror, writes Leigh Holmwood.

Ambi Sitham, who previously worked at media law firm Schillings, created The Moral Verdict with Suran Goonatilake, the executive producer of the Ewan McGregor movie Scenes of a Sexual Nature.

The format is described as being a law-based reality show, although details are being kept secret.

"The Moral Verdict is a personal brainchild of mine that has its roots in my legal career, although it will not actually be a legal programme," Sitham said.

The format was snapped up by the New York-based Weinstein Company, which is co-chaired by former Miramax founder Harvey Weinstein, and which has previously found television success with the Emmy-nominated series Project Runway and Project Greenlight.

Weinstein said "I loved the concept of this show from the minute I heard about it and think it will be very successful"

It is thought the show will be pitched to US broadcasters first before being rolled out globally. The format will be executive produced through Sitham's indie Bambi Productions and 5 London Films and overseen at the Weinstein Company by vice-president of film and television production and development, Barbara Schneeweiss.
